Queer Voices was organized after the Pulse shooting last year. For many, this tragedy was a mobilizing force; groups across the country came together and refused to be silenced.
Queer individuals are routinely trivialized, silenced, and killed. They struggle to break through even in the art world, as many galleries and museums deem LGBTQ+ work to be niche or unprofitable. This show was concieved as a venue for the powerful queer voices throughout our community.
Here are the artists for this year's Queer Voices exhibition:
*Andy Aliaga-Mendoza
*Sheridan Bishoff
*John Brooks
*Rob Fischer
*Jake Ford
*Angie Reed Garner
*Kate Hall
*Joshua Jenkins
*Gwynn LeBeau
*S.N. Parks
*William Pichette
*Tobias Cameran Stalder
*Jasmine Smith
*Edward Taylor
Curated by Kevin Warth, S.N. Parks, and John Faughender.
The exhibition begins with an opening reception Friday, June 2, 2017, from 5 p.m. to midnight, and closes with a final reception, scheduled for Friday, June 30, 2017, from 5 p.m. to midnight. Both receptions will conclude with OPEN Community Art Center's regular Friday night thing, OPEN Mic.
