Eve Theatre Company closes its fourth season with Calendar Girls by Tim Firth, based on the Miramax motion picture by Juliette Towhidi and Tim Firth. The British comedy, based on the true story of eleven Yorkshire women who dropped everything for a good cause, runs June 16 through June 25 at Kentucky Country Day School’s Scinta Black Box Theater.
Calendar Girls is a humorous, revealing and poignant tale of a group of friends who came up with a cheeky way to help a grieving friend, honor a loved one’s memory and raise money for charity. When Annie’s husband dies of leukemia, she and best friend Chris decide to raise money to purchase a new settee for the local hospital waiting room. They manage to convince their fellow Women’s Institute members to bare it all for an “alternative” calendar. The once prim, tea-and-crumpets ladies soon find themselves in the midst of a media firestorm that puts their friendships to the test.
Calendar Girls will be performed June 16, 17, 18, 23, 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. and June 19 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available through the Kentucky Country Day Theater box office, kcdtheater.org or 502.814.4367. Calendar Girls is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
