American Turkish Friendship Association of Kentucky and Muslim Americans for Compassion to hold prayer vigil for the victims of the Istanbul attack
The American Turkish Friendship Association (ATFA) of Kentucky and Muslim Americans for Compassion invite the community to join them in condemning the attacks in Istanbul. The prayer vigil will be this Thursday, June 30th, with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. and the vigil beginning at 8 p.m at the American Turkish Friendship Association Center (4711 Progress Blvd., Louisville, KY 40218). Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and other city officials are expected to be in attendance. The prayer vigil will be followed by an Iftar dinner co-hosted with the Sister Cities of Louisville at 9:15 p.m.
The American Turkish Friendship Association chapter in Kentucky has been active since 2012 with about 200 members. The group, along with other Turkish-Americans, helped Louisville establish a new Sister City with Adapazari, Turkey in 2012. The Muslim Americans for Compassion is a newly established organization founded in Louisville by Dr. Muhammad Babar and youth organizers from the Muslim community. The Muslim Americans for Compassion seek to promote compassion and understanding between people of all faiths.
“Louisville is a welcoming community, we want to welcome everyone for our prayer and breaking of bread,” said Mehmet Demirel, president of ATFA.
The prayer vigil and Iftar dinner is free to attend, but reservations are required. Contact ATFA at (502) 694-0858 or email atfaky@atfa.us for reservations and more information.
