As part of Louisville Craft Beer Week, Falls City Beer is hosting “Pints & Plates,” a seven-course, beer-pairing dinner on Tuesday, September 15. The dinner begins at 7 p.m. at Over the 9, the restaurant and bar connected to Falls City’s brewing operation at 120 S. 10th St.
Falls City Brewmaster Dylan Greenwood and Chef Griffin Paulin collaborated to create the menu, showcasing a variety of Falls City beers brewed on-site, along with seven different food courses.
“It was a lot of fun working with the chef to create these pairings,” said Greenwood. “There are taste characteristics in these beers that are really going to complement the food.”
Chef Paulin developed specialty dishes just for Pints & Plates, with each food item also featuring the paired beer infused into the dish as well. In addition to creating the regular menu for Over the 9, Paulin also is known for his work with Hammerhead’s, Roux and the Ten Tables program.
“Louisville is a great food town and a great beer town, so this event will be a true celebration of both,” Paulin said.
One of the beers featured during Pints & Plates will be the newest addition to the Falls City collection, Kentucky Common.
Falls City is bringing back this once-popular beer style that, prior to Prohibition, accounted for 75 percent of beer consumed in Louisville. Kentucky Common is produced using a combination of barley and corn and likely gained popularity in the early 1900s as Louisville-area brewers took cues from their bourbon-distilling counterparts—for whom corn is a primary ingredient. Falls City’s Kentucky Common is a lightly-hopped ale with a clean, easy-drinking, sessionable flavor.
Falls City’s Pints & Plates beer-pairing dinner is $50 per person and space is limited. Reservations may be made by emailing david@gooverthe9.com. Visit facebook.com/overthe9 for more information.
