The Kentucky Derby Museum would like to invite you to a special event and opportunity to meet Pellom McDaniels III, author of the book “The Prince of Jockeys: The Life of Isaac Burns Murphy.” McDaniels will be at the Museum Feb. 22 for a forum and book signing from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., which includes an open discussion with Curator of Collections Chris Goodlett.
The event is FREE, but please RSVP to Julie Henry at (502) 637-1111 or DerbyMuseum.org. Guests will have the opportunity to explore exhibits and watch a showing of The Greatest Race, our 360 degree film that puts you right in the heart of the Kentucky Derby action.
Also available during the event will be an exhibit based on the biography of Murphy, a three-time Kentucky Derby winning jockey. McDaniels uses photographs, illustrations and texts to explore the significance of African Americans to the development of horse racing as America’s first spectator sport, and highlights how Murphy came to be known as the “Prince of Jockeys.” Please invite your friends, family and colleagues to join us for this marvelous evening.
