DISCOVER ORIENTEERING
The idea behind orienteering is simple.
Use a map to find a series of markers in a park.
No costly equipment or GPS coordinates...just a marked map and your growing ability to observe what's around you. Your growing ability to navigate confidently.
It's the perfect all-season outdoor activity for the whole family.
Night Owl 2 hour Score-O after dark.
Start at civil sunset, which should be about 7pm.
Everybody due back in two hours.
Registration at the shelter next to the playground at the main park entrance.
Those of us who have ever been Orienteering at Night know that it is a completely different experience. Orienteering at Night, especially at E.P. Sawyer Park can be quite magical. There is an abundance of wildlife at this Park but you would never know that until you experience this park in the dark. This is one of the many reasons why this meet has become so popular with everyone. From the competitive group to the walkers, hikers, and school groups. Of course, some of this has had to do with the fantastic weather we usually get at this time of year. We will be meeting at the Large Shelter to the south of the Rec center by the Main Parking lot. The Start is scheduled for 7pm but you will want to get there early so that you can plan your route. You or your group will have only 2 hours to get as many control points as you can. Be sure to bring a powerful headlamp as that can make a big difference. OLOU has some compasses to rent out but not headlamps. If you have a group of 5 or more, please contact the Meet Director, Carl Christy.ill want to get there early so that you can plan your route.
