New Paintings by Madison Cawein

Madison Cawein has become known for his large-scale botanical paintings which blend realism and abstraction. In this exhibition of recent paintings Cawein brings together elements of nature and still life on a smaller scale. Elegant still lifes of gardenias and peonies are complimented by lively paintings of delicate hummingbirds.
Cawein says, “I am looking at still life as a landscape. Instead of objects on a table, for example, which are separate from the viewer, these still lifes are seen close up and the viewer is not separate but surrounded.”
