MURDER BALLAD
Conceived by and with book and lyrics by Julia Jordan
Music and lyrics by Juliana Nash
Directed by Jaclyn Lyons
Choreographer: Celeste Vonderschmitt
Music Director: Julie McKay
In a smoky bar, four individuals issue the murder ballad’s warning: with saints and sinners and passion and prerogative, someone has to die. What unfolds is the story of Sara, Tom and Michael, told by a nameless Narrator. Sara and Michael live a comfortable, normal life in New York City, but as their child enters school and Sara discovers a sorrowful restlessness within her, her tragic boredom leads her back to a tumultuous former lover, beginning an affair that will have deadly consequences. “Murder Ballad” is a riveting rock opera that confronts the audience with questions of love, lust, longing, fidelity and, ultimately, murder.
