Mercury Ballroom is proud to announce that we will be hosting Mercury Rising featuring local bands, Bad People and Trophy Wives, on March 17, 2015.
Bad people will be opening the night with the soul-searching sounds of their psychedelic jams. Rural Kentucky brought together these four oddities that juggle lights and sound to create a show that captivates the eyes and ears of the audience in a timeless fashion.
Jordan Adrian and Billy Duncan take on the guitars in a way few ears have heard paired with Braun Dabney on the bass, all strengthened by Andrew Beauvier on the drums. Over the past two years Bad People has played shows and festivals with more energy and emotion than can be described. From start to finish, is a solid, fluid motion of sound that are able to tell a story, start to finish of one astounding experience.
Headlining the night will be Louisville, Kentucky's Trophy Wives. First conceived in the summer of 2007 by veterans of many of the city's more noteworthy and distinguished bands of recent years, Trophy Wives has established themselves as a veritable force to be reckoned with in their own right, on their own terms.
This group has forged a highly distinctive sound, accentuated by Billy and Nick Bisig dual guitar interplay, calling to mind both the hook-laden riffs of Portland punk legends the Wipers and the heavy grind of metal godfathers Kyuss. The Wives' airtight rhythm section is a combination of Tony Ash's gnarled, razor-sharp basslines and Geoff Paton's thunderous, Neanderthal drumming. These basic but essential ingredients, combined with Billy Bisig's raspy vocal delivery, make up an overall sound that is simultaneously pummeling and inviting, explosive and subdued, and always seemingly teetering on the threshold of chaos, all while still maintaining a degree of unparalleled precision.
