JEFFERSONTOWN, KY: Performing and visual arts will combine for a dual artistic experience at an upcoming event presented by the City of Jeffersontown’s Arts Program. A performance by the Louisville Orchestra will be accompanied by a display of local artists’ works, including sculptures, paintings and mixed media pieces for “An Evening with the Arts” on Friday, Nov. 10.
The Louisville Orchestra’s music director and widely acclaimed conductor Teddy Abrams will lead the presentation of “Scheherazade” as part of the orchestra’s “Music Without Borders” program. The performance features a dazzling overture and sensuous tales of an eastern princess in this masterpiece by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
“Through our Arts Program our citizens get to experience the arts in many ways. This event provides a unique opportunity to showcase local performing and visual arts at their finest,” said Jeffersontown Mayor Bill Dieruf. “We are particularly pleased when the outstanding musicians of the Louisville Orchestra choose to perform in the City of Jeffersontown. The orchestra is such a wonderful asset in our community, and the Music Without Borders program is a great way to extend its reach and engage new patrons.”
“An Evening with the Arts” will take place at the city’s recently renamed community center, The Jeffersonian, located at 10617 Taylorsville Road. An Art Reception with light appetizers and beverages begins at 6:30 p.m. and gives attendees an opportunity to view the artwork on display. The orchestra’s concert lasts from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Then the Art Reception with dessert and beverages resumes after the concert and lasts until 9:30 p.m.
Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased online at LouisvilleOrchestra.org or by calling (502) 584-7777. Tickets will be available at the door where cash or checks will be accepted.
“An Evening with the Arts” is presented by the City of Jeffersontown and sponsored by Forest Hills Commons Senior Living Community. The Louisville Orchestra’s “Music Without Borders” program is presented by LG&E with the Nov. 10 concert sponsored by Elite Homes.
“The Louisville Orchestra is committed to opening minds and hearts to the power of music,” said Rhonda Rowland, Arts Program Manager for the City of Jeffersontown. “The crowds continue to grow and enjoy seeing the orchestra up close and personal.”
