Legendary Jockey Pat Day & Writer Bill Doolittle to Autograph Barrel Heads & Books at A Taste of Kentucky

A Portion of the Proceeds to Benefit Kentucky Race Track Chaplaincy

(LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY) A Taste of Kentucky—which offers Louisville’s widest selection of unique Kentucky-made gifts, foods, crafts and gift baskets—is proud to announce that legendary Kentucky Derby-winning jockey Pat Day will be at the Shelbyville Road Plaza store to autograph Kentucky Derby 143 bourbon barrel heads. He will be joined by nationally-known sports writer and leading authority on the Kentucky Derby Bill Doolittle. Mr. Doolittle will be signing copies of his book, The Kentucky Derby: Derby Fever, Derby Day and the Run for the Roses.

The event will take place on April 22, 2017 from 1pm – 3pm.

Barrel heads will be available for $149.99 with books priced at $50 a piece. $50 of each barrel head sale will be donated to Kentucky Race Track Chaplaincy, a non-profit organization in Kentucky and southern Ohio with a mission to nurture the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of “backside” race track workers, and their families. The organization and its volunteers seek to provide care for basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, and safety.

The 143rd Kentucky Derby Bourbon Barrel Head is a repurposed solid oak bourbon barrel head that has been thoroughly cleaned but still maintains some of the original character. The barrel head has been printed with the Official 143rd Kentucky Derby logo and clear coated to keep the artwork in pristine shape for years to come. Each bourbon barrel head measures about 21" across.

If pre-ordered, attendance at the event is not necessary and barrel heads can be picked up at a later date.
