New York Times' best-selling author Sarah Vowell will speak at Locust Grove on Friday, September 21. The evening will include a conversation between Sarah Vowell and Tara Anderson, host and producer of Five Things from Louisville Public Media, about France's Marque de Lafayette. Marquis de Lafayette fought for the United States during the American Revolution, then returned to tour the nation that he helped liberate in 1824-1825. Lafayette visited all 24 states and their major cities, including Louisville in May 1825. While in Louisville, he was invited to dine with the Croghans at Locust Grove, but had to decline. Sarah Vowell’s visit will commemorate Lafayette’s visit to Louisville, and kick off a year of programming at Locust Grove centering on the Revolutionary world that affected Lafayette as well as George Rogers Clark, William Croghan of Locust Grove and members of the Revolutionary set such as Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr.
