KMAC Museum is celebrating the milestone of 15,000 visitors enjoying the museum thanks to the free admission made possible by Delta Dental of Kentucky's charitable initiative, Making Smiles Happen®. Visitors are invited to "Share the Love" at the museum's free monthly Family Fun Day on Saturday, February 11 from 11am-3pm.
"Free admission had been a goal of our institution for years in order to break down barriers because art is the deepest form of communication," said KMAC executive director, Aldy Milliken. "Access to art and high quality exhibitions is essential for the growth and well-being of our city, and Delta Dental is a clear leader in the movement to make that possible for our region."
This Family Fun Day is a special celebration of Delta Dental's sponsorship, awarded after the museum reopened in July 2016.This donation will help KMAC Museum's effort to connect to a total of 80,000-100,000 people through June 30, 2017.
KMAC Museum connects people to art through exhibitions, educational programming and community events. KMAC's mission aligns with the spirit of Making Smiles Happen to improve the well-being and quality of life in the communities Delta Dental of Kentucky serves.
"Delta Dental believes access to art is an essential component to developing healthy communities. Making Smiles Happen strives to support causes and engage people to participate in experiences that do just that all over our great commonwealth," said Delta Dental of Kentucky COO, Tammy York-Day.
Family Fun Day is held monthly at the museum, offering free family art-making activities for all ages. At this special Family Fun Day, participants can make heart-shaped sculptures out of found objects in celebration of Valentine's Day. In addition, all participants will be invited to create mail art to send to either a newly settled refugee family in Kentucky, or a member of the 101st Airborne Division stationed at Fort Campbell.
KMAC galleries will be open to visitors, with the museum's current exhibition William J. O'Brien | Oscillates Wildly on view on the second floor, and Scholastic Art Award Exhibition on view in the third floor gallery. The KMAC café will also be open, offering coffee drinks and sweet treats. Visitors can RSVP to this free event on Facebook, or find out more at KMACmuseum.org.
