Our May Homefront samples outstanding talent from Louisville’s folk and rock/Americana scene. The talent is local, homegrown and definitely worth listening to closely.

First up, we present a native Louisvillian and great writer appearing for his first time on the front porch, Eddie Burch. Eddie is a poet who has published over 60 poems in literary journals and periodicals. He performs May 9 with his brother and fellow guitarist, Rick.

Next up is Hound of the Buskerville, a folk ensemble fronted by Marty Rosen. Marty, collector of obscure folk tunes, and mandolin player, Dan Boone, appeared a couple years back. This is the first appearance with the full ensemble which includes Phil Ragland on guitar and Eddie Hysinger on harmonica.

The second hour shifts the focus to Americana and rock and opens with Justin Paul Lewis who performs what has been called “soul-driven Americana.” He tells his stories in song with an intent to reach people and touch their soul. His most recent album, Rinse, Repeat, Rewind was produced in collaboration with cellist/producer, Ben Sollee. His songs stand out with great writing, sensitive vocals, and compelling honesty.

After this strong opening Chris Rodehaffer commands the Front Porch with his trio, Slow Down Johnny. Chris describes the ensemble as an “improvisational trio focusing on songwriting and mellow grooves.” The band consists of Chris on electric guitar, Rob Collier on bass, and Tavis Conley on drums.
