The Steamboat Days Festival began in 1973 as a fundraiser after a fire devastated the Howard Steamboat Museum. The festival, generally held in October, was an annual event that residents looked forward to until its impressive 26-year run ended in 1999. In 2014, after years and many requests from local residents to bring the festival back, it returned with a renewed focus on the arts, entertainment and a commitment to family friendliness. 2015 Festival planners made a decision to move the weekend long event to Labor Day Weekend to take advantage of exisitng activities along the riverfront and temperate weather. Several activites will kick the festival off on Friday, September 4th including a balloon glimmer and live entertainment on the Riverstage. A Parade, food vendors, artists booths, live art demonstrations and more major entertainment will be scheduled for Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th will include more of the same.
