Internationally acclaimed opera singer Alyson Cambridge will join the Jeff Sherman Trio for a special performance at Varanese Restaurant, 2106 Frankfort Avenue, on Monday, February 8 at 9:30pm. Alyson will perform selections from her recently released jazz and crossover album “Until Now” and be available for signings after the concert. Varanese will take on more of an intimate, cabaret-style atmosphere for the show, featuring high top tables and a special menu of late night options and drink specials. The performance is free but reservations are recommended by calling (502) 899-9904 or visiting www.varanese.com.
Jeff Sherman has spent his entire professional life performing music. He has taught jazz, classical guitar, and electric bass since 1966 and has toured with Marvin Gaye, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn. The Jeff Sherman duo/trio have played regularly at Varanese since its opening eight years ago and continue to perform nightly.
Alyson plays Julie LaVerne in Kentucky Opera’s presentation of SHOW BOAT, which runs from February 18 – 21, 2016 at The Brown Theatre. A groundbreaking departure from the conventional musical theatre productions of the 1920s, SHOW BOAT is a Kern & Hammerstein American classic showcasing life on a Mississippi riverboat. Tickets for SHOW BOAT are available at KYOpera.org or by calling 502.584.7777.
In her debut jazz and crossover album “Until Now,” Alyson Cambridge takes a step away from the opera stage and classical repertoire that has defined her career thus far and showcases her full range of vocal talents, never before heard on recording...that is, until now! Alyson has over a decade of success on the world’s leading opera houses and concert stages – The Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Washington National Opera, Los Angeles Opera, San Diego Opera, London’s Royal Albert Hall, Deutsche Oper Berlin and Vienna Konzerthaus among them. Praised for her “powerful, clear voice” (The New York Times), “sensual, smoky and revelatory” performances (Opera News), and hailed as “radiant, vocally assured, dramatically subtle and compelling and artistically imaginative” (Washington Post), Alyson has made the operatic heroines of Puccini, Verdi and Mozart her specialty – La Boheme’s Mimi one of her signature and most often performed roles. Her award-winning and heralded performances in Kern and Hammerstein’s Show Boat, Gershwin’s Blue Monday and Porgy and Bess have served to highlight her unique ability to simultaneously shine in the jazz, musical theater and crossover repertoire.
