Hollywood Undead hail, unsurprisingly, from the streets of Hollywood, California, mixing brash hip-hop, rock, and minor metal core touches with cocky posturing and thug attitudes. See the group perform at Mercury Ballroom on Thursday, May 14 and prepare for the all encompassing sound and wide variety of musical styles that only Hollywood Undead has to offer.
Owing much of their popularity and exposure to the social networking monster Myspace, the group - whose members usually wear masks on stage- started as the musical project of J-Dog and Tha Producer in June 2005. They uploaded some new music to their profile and very quickly started amassing song plays and online friends and even a feature from Tom, himself. The then grew to include Charlie Scene, Johnny 3 Tears, Funny Man, and Da Kurlzz.
Hollywood Undead's music features a wide variety of musical styles, generally blending hip hop with alternative rock, nu metal, and dance influence. Some of their songs have a metal influence, and feature much more screaming than other Hollywood Undead songs while others are more like rap rock with a party-based style. Many critics have stated to be confused due to the record's constant representation of different sounds but Hollywood undead just has a lot to offer.
The band is known for their vocal interplay within the songs, usually having 2, 3, and sometimes 4 rappers in a single song, while one member sings the choruses. However some tracks are left to a single rapper. J-Dog is known for his roles in the more fast-paced songs while Da Kurlzz usually provides the screaming for more metal song
