YOUR Lousiville Orchestra continues the popular Hilliard Lyons Coffee Series with From The Sea on Friday, October 11 at the Kentucky Center. Single tickets start at $20 and are available by calling 502.584.7777 or by visiting LouisvilleOrchestra.org.
Dive into this beautiful concert about the watery world. Sea nymphs, wind, waves, and water have inspired composers and film-makers to create masterpieces of orchestral music. Loosely translated as “nymphs of the waves,” Finnish composer Jean Sibelius wrote his tone poem in 1913 evoking the icy depths and the low horizon of a northern seascape. Just 8 years earlier, French composer Claude Debussy wrote his masterful work La Mer evoking the many moods of the sea from playful and tranquil to fiercely terrifying. We are proud to present the world premiere of a work by award-winning composer Garth Neustadter. Written for marimbas, xylophones, and pianos with a breath-taking film created by Kjell van Stice, Seaborne is newly revised to include a string orchestra.
