Presented by The Kentucky Center and Bourbon Baroque
Directed & Choreographed by Sarah Edgar
Dido and Aeneas is a tragic love story of operatic proportions. Amidst a background of enchantresses, spirits, and sailors of the sea, Henry Purcell’s telling of the Queen of Carthage and her beloved Trojan War hero is a gem of the Baroque era that is profoundly relevant to modern audiences. A unique collaboration between The Kentucky Center and Bourbon Baroque, this production will inter-relate the arts of contemporary and baroque dance, mask work, and pantomime – all accompanied by the expanded force of Bourbon Baroque on period instruments led by baroque violinist Nicolas Fortin and harpsichordist John Austin Clark. Featuring dancer/director Sarah Edgar, Gregory and Abigail Maupin of the newly formed GrabBag Productions, faculty of the Louisville Dance Alliance, and Youth Performing Arts School vocalists under the direction of Jacob Cook. Sung in English with English supertitles.
