Preservation enthusiasts, DIY home fixer-uppers and historic home owners are invited to participate in a three-part series on window restoration led by Gary Kleier and Holli Nance.
For all classes students will need to provide their own safety glasses and gloves for handling glass. If you do not have glasses, you can only watch from a distance. Regular eye glasses are acceptable unless they are very narrow. Wear work clothes. If you have a sash you want to work on, please feel free to bring it, but be reasonable with the size. Other than glasses and gloves, all materials and tools will be provided.
Windows 102: This class will build on 101. Student will have hands on experience stripping paint from sash with heat guns, scrapers and chemical strippers. Students will learn how to assess the damage to windows, make simple repairs using wood fillers and epoxy, and prepare for painting. Paint types will be discussed. Epoxy types and uses will also be discussed as well as where to obtain the products and what not to use. In addition to the required items, heat guns, scrapers, and one inch plastic putty knives are welcomed.
Class space is limited, 10 participants. Payment is required in advance.
You do not need to attend Windows 101 to sign up for Windows 201, but preference will be given to those who have completed 101.
