Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, originally founded in 1995 in Tennessee, is an effort that provides children with a new, FREE book every month.
Beginning in January 2017, children ages birth to 5 who are enrolled and live in the 40202, 40203 or 40208 zip codes will receive a free book in the mail every month after enrollment until their 5th birthday. The books are addressed to them and are theirs to keep in order to help families build a library in their home at no cost. Each year, a committee of early childhood education experts selects age appropriate books that work to bring families together and create a culture of reading.
The kickoff event for the Imagination Library of Louisville is this Saturday, January 28, at the Louisville Free Public Library. Kids from anywhere in Jefferson County are invited to enjoy storytime, crafts, a snack, and free books. Rainbow Fish will be in attendance to encourage reading and fun! This event is from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Main branch (301 York Street).
The Junior League of Louisville, WAVE 3 News and the Jefferson County Public Education Foundation partnered to bring this opportunity to Louisville, sponsored by Delta Dental, the Rotary Club, Kosair Charities, and other generous donors.
