Aleksandra Stone's "Congenital Maladies" opens this Friday! Preview the show below and join us for the reception with the artist on First Friday, 6 - 9 p.m.
Aleksandra Stone
congenital maladies
Stone writes: Plagued by perpetual self-scrutiny and a lifelong struggle with frequent bouts of depression, my career as a self-portrait photographer manifested largely out of the necessity to cope, heal, and carry on. Over the years my presence behind my camera gave voice to a narrative for which I otherwise lacked words. ...my quest to stage my work in real and tangible places to reiterate and legitimize the authenticity of the emotions and experiences I draw from, has taken me as far as the desolate volcanic landscape of Iceland and the sea-side cliffs of Croatia.
Stone is an unflagging artist-activist, fighting the stigma attached to mental health issues and for the role of art in healing and recovery. Stone is a Louisvillian currently dividing her time between Louisville and New York City.
This is Stone's second solo with garner narrative; she was also featured in the gallery for the 2013 Louisville Photo Biennial. Stone has been collected by 21c, interviewed in HuffPo and other publications, and was LEO's Reader’s Choice “Best Visual Artist” in 2014.
Please join us for a reception with the artist Friday, Aug. 5 from 6 - 9 p.m., concurrent with the First Friday Hop. Our cash bar will serve red, white, and local Goodwood brews.
