On Saturday, April 11 the Jefferson County Civil War Round Table will hold a one day seminar to commemorate and explore the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War. Lasting four years and costing over 700,000 lives, the Civil War was by far the most traumatic event in American history. The seminar will be held at the Jefferson County History Center, 615 W. First St., Madison, IN 47250.
The speakers and presentations for the event are: Terry Winschel, former Historian at Vicksburg National Military Park: “Stephen D. Lee and the making of an American Shrine;” Christopher L. Kolakowski, Director of the General Douglas MacArthur Memorial in Norfolk, Virginia: “Appomattox: The End and the Beginning;” Nicole Etcheson, Professor of History at Ball State University: “Barren Victories or Great Prizes: The Legacy of the Civil War for Indiana;” and Mike Capps, Chief of Interpretive and Resource Management at the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial: “Remembering Lincoln: Monuments and Memorials.”
Includes lunch, snacks and book raffle.
