Anne Wehrley Björk's large abstract works incorporate acrylic paint and graphite on raw canvas. Recalling her experiences in her native New Mexico, the paintings make a dynamic statement about the monumental landscape and iconic symbols of the mystical ruins of the ancient Anasazi in Chaco Canyon. Angular lines, arcs, and shapes in muted colors allow energy to flow across the canvas, drawing in the viewer.
Anne Björk received an MFA from the University of New Mexico and has shown in Albuquerque, Chicago, Atlanta, and South Carolina, as well as Kentucky. She is currently an adjunct faculty member at the University of Kentucky Art Education department.
The exhibition is free and open to the public during regular gallery hours beginning Saturday, September 12, and ending Tuesday, October 20.
