The American Printing House for the Blind (APH) will host Breakout for Braille, a fundraising event that supports early literacy on July 29 from 6:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. during the FAT Friday Trolley Hop. Breakout Louisville will introduce its first pop-up Breakout escape game, the APH Museum will be open extended hours, Pokémon players can collect items, and food trucks will be on site.

All proceeds from Breakout for Braille will benefit APH’s preschool print/braille book program, Braille Tales. Braille Tales promotes literacy by providing free children’s books that contain printed text and braille to families around the United States with a parent or child who is blind. Developed by Breakout Louisville, the Louisville branch of the nationwide escape game company Breakout, the pop-up game has a timely Olympics theme. Participants will have fifteen minutes to find clues and piece together puzzles to figure out who stole the Olympic medals. On the night of Breakout for Braille, free admission to the Museum of the American Printing House for the Blind will be extended until 8:00 p.m. The event will also be a stop on Frankfort Avenue Trolley Friday, or FAT Friday. Held on the final Friday of each month, FAT Friday is a free shuttle service that takes passengers to a variety of businesses on or near Frankfort Avenue. FAT Friday draws thousands of people, and participating shops, restaurants and galleries often have special sales or live music. Visitors of Breakout for Braille who play Pokémon Go can battle at the APH gym, collect items from the APH PokéStop, or take advantage of lure modules that will be activated for the duration of the event.
