The zombie movie is a staple of any aspiring filmmaker obsessed with the horror genre. In the Louisville film scene, Dead Moon Rising

has had a place as the go-to film in our local culture, gaining notoriety after securing a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest gathering of zombies in a movie. However, the Louisville zombie movie may have a replacement in last year's film

    Overtime

(which this writer witnessed at this year's Derby City Film Festival following an interview with co-writer and cinematographer Brian Cunningham).

    Overtime

tells the story of two hitmen, Ralph and Max, sent out for one last job on a very important day: Ralph's son's birthday. His efforts to make it back in the time for the party are thwarted when they find themselves trapped in a warehouse full of zombie aliens – or zaliens.

The film has thus far been received enthusiastically, and with its popularity comes the next stage in its life: a sort-of sequel in the form of a “fully interactive first-shooting experience.” It's called XTERMINATE: Zalien Attack, and it premieres this weekend at Asylum Haunted Scream Park. The story behind the game: the pharmaceutical company eradicated by Ralph and Max was just a small part of the bigger picture, and there is another location which needs cleansing – on Ralph's wedding anniversary. Not wanting to go through all that again, he and Max instead recruit you – yes, YOU – to do the job for them.

    Says

    Overtime

director Matt Niehoff, “With ‘Overtime’ coming out on DVD nationwide in January 2013, we couldn’t be more excited about this new attraction. This picks up where the movie left off and gives fans a chance to step into this crazy world and kick some serious zalien butt.”

Asylum Haunted Scream Park is located at 3101 Pond Station Road. It will be open from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays through the end of October. Information about all the attractions, as well as pricing, can be found at the Scream Park's website.

    About Allan Day

There are legitimate theories that the Big Bang originated from the collapse of a black hole in a fourth-dimensional universe. This stuff fascinates me, and I love reading about it. I love reading about science. And about anything, for that matter, provided it's interesting - and everything is potentially interesting, so I'm fascinated by a lot of things. I also read a lot of fiction (Kurt Vonnegut deserves deification) and watch a lot of movies (Charlie Chaplin also deserves deification). I've made a few short films myself. I'm also a writer of everything - I'm close to a Bachelor's in English at IUS. My life consists of reading, writing, bartending, and taking care of my daughter full-time. Life is busy and life is stressful, but that's why there's music and art and other forms of relaxation.
