Work Writing: Carmichael’s presents work-themed anthology for Labor Day

I don’t really like talking about work.  I am not my job.  That which fills my purse (not) is so far from my passion, and the longer I labor for negligible pennies and wallow in high levels of cortisol, the more my mind wanders into quixotic gardens of outlandish fantasy.  There is very little I’d be willing to do for a mere 11.75 per hour before taxes, so I, quite simply, do just that: very little.  It’s grand.  And while a great many Americans will step out of the office and scarf some hearty Oscar Meyer’s this coming Monday, let us all take a moment to genuflect at that rusty, tin alter of the lonely worker: light reading anyone?

Carmichael’s will serve up a slice of handiwork homage tomorrow evening, Friday, August 31st as the new collection All the Livelong Day: Motif Anthologies, Volume 3 takes center stage.  Join editor Marianne Worthington at 7pm, as well as several contributing writers and music, for a reading celebrating the hearty minds and backs of those who toil.

Featuring selections from Erin Keane, George Ella Lyon and Bobbi Buchanan – all planned guests for the event – All the Livelong Day guides readers through a plethora of jobs, traversing the work day from the earliest hours into the latest of lonely graveyard shifts.  Cutting a colorful slice from the writing puzzle, the essays tackle the subject in all manner of mediums, giving voice through traditional short fiction as well as poetry, creative nonfiction and even some strum-able song lyrics.

Waxing poetic about your job sound like a ticket to some relief from the grind?  Bring your woes, hopes and work tomorrow evening to Carmichael’s Bookstore.  Copies of All the Livelong Day: Motif Anthologies, Volume 3 will be on hand to swap shifts with you for $15.00 paperback.  Grab a copy, hand over your hard-earned dough and tip your hat in solid salute for the uniting pressures of the American Dream.

Carmichael’s Bookstore has two area locations: 1295 Bardstown Road and 2720 Frankfort Avenue.  For more information, visit the event page or call the Frankfort Avenue store at (502)896-6950.

    About Erin Day

I'm a Louisville native who transplanted home from Las Vegas recently. Don't ask. In my spare time I read a lot of books and drink gin. My soulmate is my 1994 turquoise Ford Ranger - they never made a finer truck. I still totally believe in the Loch Ness Monster. I just want to write for you.
