July 23rd, 2005 marked the first Women in the Field Art and Music Festival. The idea came from the heart of two people trying to pull a suffering
fri/files/storyimages/out of the financial burden of losing her loved-one to cancer. Combining the skills of a musician with a corporate purchasing manager, the two decided to put on an art and music festival with a silent auction to raise money. The first year, held on private property, gathered over 800 people and raised $10,000. The festival was such a success and with the encouragement of others, the two decided to open the festival to the public.
This year, all of the proceeds are going to Hospice of Louisville’s Bridges Center, which mirrors the purpose of the first festival. The Bridges Center’s purpose is to rebuild after a life-changing loss. Instead of helping just one individual, the festival can help thousands in need of assistance. There was no question in deciding who the beneficiary was going to be. The two co-founders decided to start their own Non-profit organization, Continuing On Charitable Foundation, to help raise money for other Non-profit organizations who aid people in the recovery process after suffering from a loss.
This year’s festival is going to be held at the Brown-Foreman Amphitheater and Yellow Lawn at the Waterfront on River Road from 12:00pm to 9:30pm. The day’s activities include 40 female artists with a wide variety of fine art and crafts. Ten female-fronted bands will be rocking the stage ending with international touring artist Sarah Bettens of K’s Choice. Also, a silent auction for all of the bidding people will be open from 12:00pm to 7:30pm. Admission is $15. Food and beverage will be available. Pet admission is $1.00. Chairs and blankets are allowed, but no coolers.
