The Winter’s Tale by William Shakespeare opens April 19th in the  University  of Louisville’s Playhouse,  directed by guest artist  Dennis Krausnick.  This romantic tale contrasts the bitter sadness of  a jealous king with his young daughter’s first love, full of joy and charm. Written near the /files/storyimages/of the Bard’s career, The Winter’s Tale explores a wide range of human emotions and experience.  Like Othello, King Leontes is overwhelmed by unfounded jealousy.  Convinced that his wife and best fri/files/storyimages/have betrayed him, he imprisons his queen, abandons his baby daughter, and loses his only son to a broken heart.  But the darkness of winter in the beginning of the play gives way to the hope for new life in the summer of the
second half.  When Leonte’s daughter Perdita and Florizel, the son of Leontes' betrayed friend, fall in love, all things are made possible, even a king’s redemption and the resurrection of the dead.
