The new Westport Village shopping center on Herr Lane at Westport Road announces the celebrity judges for the Outrageous Derby Hat Contest, Saturday, March 29, at 11 am. The celebrity judges are WAVE-3 news anchor Jackie Hays; Courier-Journal fashion reporter Christa Ritchie, local designer Barry Wooley, former U of L football coach John L. Smith, former NFL football player Will Wolford, and former U of K basketball player and NBA star Scott Padgett.
Sponsored by the Courier-Journal/courier-journal.com, WAVE-3, and 84 WHAS, The Outrageous Derby Hat Contest is a live event scheduled for Saturday, March 29, at 11 am in the middle of WestportVillage. Hosted by Francene of 84 WHAS, it will feature contestants modeling their Derby Hats for a live audience. Winners will be announced at the /files/storyimages/of the live event.
“We look forward to seeing the creativity of the community – the more outrageous the better!” said Colin Underhill, WestportVillage leasing agent. “The competition includes adult and children’s categories.”
Contestants may enter online at www.westportvillage.com or www.courier-journal.com, or visit the Underhill Associate office in WestportVillage for a printed application. The entry form to win a Free Derby Hat from Croquis Boutique is also available online or in person. Three Adult Categories of Designer Hat, Handcrafted Hat, and Derby Themed Hat will each have a Win, Place, and Show winner, plus one overall winner will be selected “Best in Show” for the Most Outrageous Hat. Two Children’s Categories of Youth Division age 4-10 and Aspiring Designer Division age 11-17 will each have a Win, Place, and Show winner. All Contest Participants will provide their hat entries for display in the Hat Gallery Hall of Fame throughout WestportVillage from Saturday, March 29-Sunday, April 27, 2008.
Adult Grand Prize – Four (4) Win Tickets - The Win Ticket for all three Adult Categories plus the Best in Show winner will receive the opportunity to become a celebrity. Guest appearances to wear their winning hats include tickets for 2 to the Kentucky Derby Festival Celebrity Luncheon at Churchill Downs followed by the Kentucky Derby Festival Pre-Parade party, plus riding in the Pegasus Parade with television coverage on WAVE-3. Additional guest media appearances include a WAVE-3 Listens TV broadcast and the Kentucky Derby Festival AT&T Morning Line Radio network broadcasts from the KentuckyDerbyMuseum, plus additional media appearances to be determined (Value $500). Additional Adult Prizes – Three (3) Place Tickets, Three (3) Show Tickets – each Adult Category second and third place finishers will receive a Westport Village Prize Package (Place Prize Package Value $200), (Show Prize Package Value $100).
