Poetry is no longer relegated to that dusty and mysterious side shelf, and no one will be grading your ability to find the meter or rhyme scheme.  Modern poets share their writing and connect with audiences at the popular monthly reading series hosted by Sarabande Books.

Presented in the luxurious yet eccentric digs of Louisville’s world famous 21c Museum Hotel, the Sarabande Reading Series showcases different authors on the last Monday of every month at 7:30pm (with the exception of November and December).  These readings are free and open to the public, so fear no pretension and bring your friends! This month’s headliner is Adam Clay, a published poet and Professor at Western Michigan University.

Adam Clay is the author of The Wash, a book of poems that “uncovers the voices that can be made, and heard, in and out of nature. ”  Lush with river imagery and conveying a deep sense of the passage of time, The Wash is available for order from Parlor Press for $12.00 in paperback or Adobe ebook on CD.  His second book, A Hotel Lobby at the Edge of the World, is forthcoming from Milkweed Editions.

Clay’s poems have made appearances in such publications as Denver Quarterly, The Iowa Review, Black Warrior Review, Fascicle, CutBank, The New Orleans Review, Conduit, Octopus Magazine, Free Verse as well as others.  Originally hailing from Mississippi, Clay holds an MFA from the University of Arkansas and an MA from the Center for Writers at the University of Southern Mississippi.  He also co-edits Typo Magazine and curates the Poets in Print Reading Series at the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center.

Monday night’s reading will mark the seventh installment in this year’s series and promises to provide well-crafted writing in an intimate and inspiring setting.  Browse the art, relax and let the words wash over you.

21c Museum Hotel is located at the corner of 7th and W Main St (look for the red penguins)

    About Erin Day

I'm a Louisville native who transplanted home from Las Vegas recently. Don't ask. In my spare time I read a lot of books and drink gin. My soulmate is my 1994 turquoise Ford Ranger - they never made a finer truck. I still totally believe in the Loch Ness Monster. I just want to write for you.
