Walton to Repeat Harp Performance at Switzerland County Gallery
Popular harp player Darlene Walton of Rising Sun will perform at Signatures of Switzerland County Friday, Sept. 5 from 6-9 pm. The performance is free and open to the public.
Born in Cincinnati, Walton became interested in music at an early age. Her interest resulted in her studying both the piano and violin. It was during a harp concert in the fifth grade that she spotted her true passion. At sixteen she became the organist at her church and in her early twenties taught piano.
After marrying and moving to Rising Sun, IN, Walton checked out the harps when Harps on Main first opened their doors. It was an instant bond and love for the instrument that led her to order the largest model available. In the meantime she was sent home with a rental harp to learn how to play. With her enthusiasm and extensive music background, Walton was later hired to demonstrate the instruments and manage the Harps on Main showroom.
Walton’s career has blossomed from her passion of the harp and has led her to perform at numerous dinners and receptions. She has entertained at a VIP arts award dinner reception in Indianapolis, a eulogy video for the late Governor Frank O’Bannon, the State House for the Inauguration Day Reception at the Governor’s office and the Wall of Diamonds at the Kentucky Derby Festival. She also has performed very special concerts for the babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati—which has shown to be very beneficial for the babies, parents and those who are nursing the youngsters.
Walton has two harp CDs to her credit—“The Harp and the Rising Sun” and “Quiet Praise”. Selections include original compositions as well as new and old gospel arrangements.
Walton welcomes the public to share in her passion for the harp and ask her questions about her music during her Sept. 5 performance.
