Central's Anthony Wales (pictured) was one of the top running backs in the state this past season and college coaches are starting to take notice.
Wales, a 5-foot-9, 170 pound junior who has offers from Louisville, Kentucky and Northwestern, recently picked up another offer. This time it was from Illinois.
He finished his junior season with 2,994 yards, a Jefferson County record, and 40 touchdowns, as he led the Yellowjackets to a 3A state championship.
Wales has 5,429 yards and 79 touchdowns in his career. He already ranks 17th all-time in state history in rushing touchdowns. Former Lexington Christian running back Dominique Hayden holds the state record with 120.
Wales will enter the 2011 season as one of the favorites to win the Mr. Football award. Dixie Heights quarterback Zeke Pike and Highlands quarterback Patrick Towles are also top candidates.
Seneca's Michael Fluellen was one of the top wide receivers in the city of Louisville this past season. Now he's looking for a place to play in college.
Fluellen caught 58 passes this season, for 1,558 yards and 18 touchdowns this past season. Louisville, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State, Ball State and Eastern Kentucky are showing interest.
"His big thing is academics and he (recently) took the ACT," Seneca coach Louis Dover told the Louisville Courier-Journal. "Tennessee State said they will offer as soon as he's eligible and Eastern Kentucky couldn't believe nobody had offered him. He's getting a lot of looks."
The 6-foot-5, 220 pounder is also a standout on the Redhawk basketball team.
