Join Walden Theatre for Waiting for Lefty by Clifford Odets with a special bonus play His Honor the mayor by Orson Welles.
Waiting for Lefty is told in a series of vignettes that are framed by a meeting of taxi drivers debating whether or not they should strike. This 1930s play touches on several issues surrounding the Great Depression – including the widespread distrust of big business.
His Honor the Mayor is a short play written by Orson Welles for a series that explored the dimensions and implications of the freedoms guaranteed by the constitution. With this play, Freedom of Speech is the focus, with a well-respected mayor beset by those who don't approve of a rally by a known bigot and rabble-rouser.
Times are tough nowadays, but take a look back with Walden Theatre at how the 1930s proved to be a time of great sacrifice and great struggle in the face of adversity, and how the arts were a way to tackle issues of the day.
