I love attics. Cellars. Basements. Places where people keep all their junk. Give me a dark, dank room full of boxes, trinkets, and mysterious packages, and I can entertain myself for quite a while looking through all of this for anything interesting. Most homes have such a place. Things accumulate. Humans are inherently pack rats, more or less. Most people don't like to throw things away, and then they go into storage and are never, or rarely, touched, looked at, or thought of again. Think of what might be in your own basement or attic, or your parents', or your grandparents'. What stories? What memories? What secrets?

That may not always be true, but let's take a look at our main topic here: The Flat
, winner of the Israeli Academy Award for Best Documentary, and a new installment in the Louisville Exclusives series at Village 8 Theaters. Director Amon Goldfinger was tasked with cleaning out the flat of his grandparents after the matriarch passed away at age 98. During the process, he came across some very puzzling artifacts – letters and newspapers and such which seemed to indicate an association with members of the Nazi party during the Holocaust. Intrigued and confused, he launched a full-scale investigation into the matter, with perhaps some shocking results.
The Flat
