The Boston-area was hit hard by a winter storm that caused blizzard-like conditions earlier this week.
The University of Louisville men’s basketball hopes to keep piling on Beantown.
The Cardinals (16-3, 4-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference), who are ranked No. 9 in this week’s USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 10 in The Associated Press Top 25, will play at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. at 9:06 p.m. Wednesday night. The game, which was in jeopardy of not being played, is scheduled to be televised locally on WHAS-11.
U of L is coming off a very impressive 80-68 victory at Pittsburgh on Sunday. The Cards shot a season-high 65.2 percent (30 for 46) from the field and got a game-high 26 points from Terry Rozier. They’ll see if they can continue their hot shooting against the Eagles (9-9, 1-5), who are 12th in the ACC standings.
Boston College won seven of its first 11 games, falling to Massachusetts (71-62), West Virginia (70-66), Dayton (65-53) and USC (75-71). The Eagles, however, lost their first five ACC games, with an overtime victory over Harvard in the middle. BC got blown out by Duke (85-62) in its ACC opener Jan. 3, then lost a pair of close games to Pittsburgh (61-60 in OT) and Miami (60-56) before beating Harvard (64-57). The Eagles then lost a home game to Virginia (66-51) and at Syracuse (69-61) before edging Georgia Tech 64-62 Sunday behind 25 points from 6-foot-4 junior guard Olivier Hanlan.
Boston College is led by Hanlan (16.8 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 4.5 apg), 6-5 senior forward Aaron Brown (14 ppg, 3.2 rpg), 6-6 senior guard Patrick Heckmann (8.4 ppg, 4.4 rpg), 7-1 junior center Dennis Clifford (7.8 ppg, 5.6 rpg) and 6-3 senior guard Dimitri Batten (7.7 ppg).
The Eagles have former Trinity High School standout Darryl Hicks on their roster. However the 6-2 sophomore guard from Shelbyville is recovering from his second ACL injury.
BC leads the all-time series against UofL 3-2. The Cards, though, won the last meeting 89-85 in double-overtime - behind 23 points from DeJuan Wheat - in Freedom Hall on Dec. 29, 1996.
After Boston College, Louisville returns home to host AP No. 13, USA Today No. 14 North Carolina at 4 p.m. Saturday.
