University of Kentucky’s Greater Louisville Alumni Association Hosts Home Canning and Food Preservation Information Session at the St. Matthews Farmers Market
Patrons Will Learn the Basics of Canning and Food Preservation Techniques During a Fun and Informative Presentation on June 12
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 18, 2010) - - - Wouldn’t it be nice to eat your own home grown produce all winter long? Now you can. The Greater Louisville chapter of the University of Kentucky’s Alumni Association will be hosting a food canning and preservation information session in conjunction with the St. Matthews Farmers Market and with support from Central Bank. The presentation, which is open to the public and free to attend, will take place on Saturday, June 12 at 11 a.m.
Family and Consumer Sciences agents Nelda Moore and Chris Rivera from the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service will show the audience basics of home canning, including how to properly freeze and dry various fruits and vegetables. Live demonstrations of canning methods using pressure cookers and hot water baths will also be showcased. The St. Matthews Farmers Market is held at the Beargrass Christian Church at 4100 Shelbyville Road. Call (502) 562-5728 for more information.
