Three years ago, two local actors, William Cothron and James Wolford Hardin decided they wanted to make a movie and formed a modest company called True Dreams Productions. Flash forward to the present. True Dreams Productions has completed two full-length motion pictures, an award-winning short film and branched out into making commercials.
Cothron and Hardin have been more than pleased. “We have exceeded beyond what we set out to do,” said Cothron. His partner and friend, James Hardin speaks fondly of their work. Hardin is location manager, casting director and troubleshooter. “Louisville is a great pool of talent,” said Hardin, “we are proud that our films have been vehicles that have propelled local talent into bigger projects.
Several have been involved in some national-level films. And that is how it should be. We needed a cinematographer and editor and found a very talented young man, Evan Peters. Bill and I were very happy to be executive producers on Peters own film, “The Poster”, a Twilight Zone type of film. It is excellent.
At True Dreams, Cothron is head writer and director, and says he has seen several thousand films in his life, but finds the work much different than some others he has met. Some directors and writers find film very frustrating. “I find it amazing, fascinating, and utter joy! The bigger the problem, the more fun it is to solve it.”
“Most of their success to their out-and-out love for cinema film making is the greatest art form of the twentieth century. It freezes time and space, it lasts” says Cothron.
Currently they are in production for their third film, a comedy about the highs and lows of film making. Their first two features, “Finale I” and “Finale II, will be shown at the Derby City Independent Film Series on Friday, January 30 at the Vernon Coffee Roaster, 1575 Story Avenue.” Finale I” will be shown at 7 PM, followed by a question and answer session, “Finale II” will be shown at 9 PM. Admission is free.
