Trolley Hop...yet another example of Louisville embracing the diversity of people, culture and art.  Louisville hosts one of the few free Trolley Hop programs in the nation.  We are so fortunate not only to have concentrated art districts where visual stimulation abounds but also resources that allow us to enjoy it in such remarkable style.

On the first Friday of each month, from 5pm - 11pm the Hop focuses on the downtown corridors along Main, Market and 4th Street.  On the final Friday of each month, from 6pm - 10:30pm the Hop focuses on the Frankfort Avenue area.

You will find upwards of 150 combined participating locations for the Hops, several of which are housed in unique structures, such as a post Civil War warehouse and a renovated Firehouse, not to mention the beautiful architecture of the historic homes that have been converted into businesses.

What will you find should you chose to venture out for the Hop?  Let’s see; free drinks and hors d’oeuvres galore to enhance your enjoyment as well as street performers, antiques, art therapy, contemporary art, custom jewelry, fire spinning, folk art, glass blowing, installation art, interactive activities, an international collection of home furnishings and accessories, live music, media art, painted quilts and textile collages, paintings,  photography, sculptures, wood turning and much more.  It really is impossible to express the range of artistic display you’ll find.  And what’s even better is that a large portion of what you will see is the work of local independent artists...those fabulous individuals who help us keep Louisville weird.

Most shops ext/files/storyimages/hours for the Hops and there are always special deals, so you can do some shopping while you’re out.  Downtown hosts several museums which also ext/files/storyimages/hours for the Hop.  There are some fabulous vintage shops, quaint little book stores, consignment stores, wine and cheese shops and many others.  You’ll be amazed at the selection of restaurants and bars along the way as well as the nightlife entertainment options.

It really is an incredibly unique venue that everyone should experience at least once.  Although be warned:  it is addictive!  So come on down and enjoy the art, do some shopping, have a few drinks and support your community!  See you there.

For a comprehensive list of participants and more information, check out the links below.  However, there are new participants springing up so quickly I’ve noticed not everyone is mentioned on the sites, so you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
