Tony Kimbro made headlines around the state last week when he decided to transfer back to the city of Louisville and play his senior season of basketball at Jeffersontown. I caught up with Kimbro and asked him about his decision.
Kimbro has played for Christ School in North Carolina for the last two season. He played his freshman year at Louisville's duPont Manual.
"I just want to have fun my senior year," Kimbro said. "I want to play with some guys that I grew up with. I just felt like transferring back to Louisville was the best thing for me."
Kimbro averaged 12.4 points and 3.1 steals this past season.
"I played my role," Kimbro said. "Everybody on the team had a different role to bring to the table, so I think I played my role well and I feel I did everything I could to help my team win."
He helped lead his team to a 37-2 record this past season. His play on the court has caught the eye of several of the nation's top college programs. He currently holds scholarship two offers and several other schools are showing a lot of interest.
"Recruiting is going good," Kimbro said. "Kentucky, Louisville, Duke, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech and Virgina are showing a lot of interest. Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech have offered."
Traditionally, the Jeffersontown Chargers have always been one of the toughest teams in the seventh region. They won a state championship in 2006, then made it back to Rupp Arena in 2008. Coach Jeff Morrow's squad made another nice run this past season, behind the play of senior leaders Thomas Jackson, Richard Kennedy and Dominique Smith.
With those players now gone, many wondered how good the Chargers would be in 2010-2011 but when Kimbro decided to transfer to Jeffersontown, the Chargers instantly became one of the top teams, not just in the seventh region, but the entire state.
