Tobin-Hewett Gallery, nationally recognized for showing the best of contemporary glass art, is holding a sale to reduce inventory in preparation for the gallery’s closing on May 31.  The sale begins Saturday, March 25.

All available glass art can be viewed on the gallery’s website, www.tobinhewettgallery.com.  Purchases from $1,000 to $4,999 will receive a 25 percent discount and purchases above $5,000 will receive a 30 percent discount. Works on the secondary market will be available at the owners’ discretion.

After doing business from Cincinnati for 10 years, the Marta Hewett Gallery moved to Louisville to be a part of the Glassworks complex in the spring of 2001. Diane Tobin joined the business in January 2003.  Hewett and Tobin have enjoyed working with an enthusiastic and growing population of art glass collectors in Louisville.

Tobin said she’s leaving because she was offered “a fabulous position” at Spalding University, where she will be executive director of Adult Learning Initiatives, chair of Accelerated Programs and an associate professor in the school of Business and Communication. She also will teach two classes.

Marta Hewett will return to Cincinnati and continue to sell investment quality studio glass, lecture and curate exhibitions in public venues.  “I will not miss the two-hour commute each day, but I am very sorry to be leaving Louisville.  It is a community with fantastic energy and has been extremely supportive of the gallery’s efforts.  I have every intention of continuing my relationships with artists and collectors here in Louisville. There are an increasing number of glass artists, studios, related programs and collectors in Cincinnati as well.  I would like to see more communication among people in the glass field in the two cities in order to create a regional strength, and I have a great interest in being a part of that effort.”

The gallery’s last exhibit will be Clear Impact: Kentucky’s Current Place in Studio Glass:  Stephen Rolfe Powell, Che Rhodes and Patrick Martin. The exhibit, which includes the work of the three professors and 11 of their students, opens April 18 and runs through May 27.
