Thunder is on the verge of rocking Louisville and Southern Indiana with the 16th annual kick off to two weeks of Kentucky Derby Festival fun.    Join us on the banks of the Ohio River TOMORROW as Thunder ROCKS to 50 years of Rock-n-Roll.

    Thunder on the Ground

There's more to do than look up this year.   Starting at 11 AM,   "Thunder on the Ground" will offer hands-on entertainment experiences.   You can test drive an Indy Car in a Pole Position simulator, test your fitness against real drill sergeants in the US Marine Corp Chin-up Challenge, explore a miniature C-130 Hercules and sample products from Coca-Cola, the Kentucky Beef Council and more.   Kids can bounce, swing, climb and more in the interactive areas along River Road and in Waterfront Park.   Meet the Derby Festival Royal Court and Gus & Peggy  Pegasus as they roam the Chow Wagon and Waterfront Park.   Thunder's FoodFest, the Chow Wagon and the Thunder Beer Garden also open at 11 AM. The live music of local band NEW BREED will be featured on the Budweiser True Music stage at the Chow Wagon from 2:30 - 11 pm. Pick up a Thunder map at the event and seek out the fun on the ground while enjoying the buzz of the overhead performers.

    Gotcha covered!

The official media partners of Thunder have got you covered from all angles:

On your way to and from the event, listen to traffic updates on the Official Thunder Station, 84WHAS Radio.   The air show coverage will begin at 3 PM with Terry Meiners, Joe Elliott & Francene will anchor from 6 - 8 and Tony Cruise & Cindi Sullivan will take you from the fireworks to the ride home. Take a radio to the event and hear the entire fireworks soundtrack simulcast if you are out of ear shot of a Thunder sound tower.

Too cold for you?   You can still have a bird's eye seat of show even if you're staying home this year or watching from a Thunder party.   Keep it on WAVE 3 TV for the exclusive broadcast of Thunder.   Beginning at 3 PM, Jackie Hayes, John Belski, Scott Reynolds and Dawne Gee will anchor the coverage from the Belvedere with field reporting from more than a dozen reporters on the ground, in the sky, in the Command Center and on the bridge. And NEW this year, WAVE will broadcast the fireworks AND the complete air show in digital for all you hi-def owners.

Be sure to get a copy of today's Week/files/storyimages/Extra in the Courier-Journal for complete pre-event coverage including an air show schedule with photos, story on the Thundernator, viewing tips and the official Thunder map.
