I think former UK player Perry Stevenson said it best when he tweeted to UK fans going to Saturday’s game to “bring a sack of tomatoes. You’ll know your target when you see him”. Stevenson was referring to former UK and Texas A&M coach Billy Gillispie, who will be in attendance for Saturday’s game. Gillispie, who came to UK after three successful seasons at Texas A&M following the 2007 season, went 40-27 in two turbulent years in Lexington before being fired after the 2009 season without winning an NCAA tournament game.
Gillispie, who is making his first public appearance since resigning before the start of his second season as head coach of Texas Tech, was invited by current Aggie coach Billy Kennedy. He cited medical reasons for his resignation after checking himself into the hospital for blood pressure and other stress related issues in September, but was under fire after allegations of player abuse and NCAA practice violations. Since then he’s largely stayed out of the public eye, which will change in a big way Saturday.
