Since last fall, Resident Artist Gallagher has been seeking out and painting the women in Louisville who have inspired him the most. This new exhibit celebrates Gallagher’s ‘Year of Inspiration’ as resident artist of the Ali Center’s new Dreammaker’s Program. Throughout the year, visitors to the Center were able to see the artwork being developed and to interact with the artist.
Gallagher’s own story has been one of inspiration—moving from the corporate world to follow his dream of becoming an artist. “Through this residency,” he said, “I have transformed my life and world view, found my voice, and improved my health.” He chose to paint women for the exhibit because “women tend to inspire people every day, even when they don’t know they’re doing it.”
The inspirational women featured in Gallagher’s exhibit are: Lonnie Ali, Co-Founder of the Muhammad Ali Center; Cathy Baily, Former Ambassador to the Republic of Latvia; Nikki Jackson, Cabinet Secretary of Personnel for the Commonwealth of Kentucky; Marlene Grissom, Director of Special Projects for Waterfront Park; Lisa Resnik, Director of Campaign and Strategic Initiatives at the Speed Art Museum; Bonnie Hathcock, Executive Vice President of Human Resources at Humana; Jennifer Beilstein, Managing Director of Actor’s Theater; Anita Cauley, Horse Breeder; Lynda Lambert, DJ, 102.3 ‘The Max’; and Barbara Sexton Smith, Executive Vice President of the Fund for the Arts.
Viewing the exhibit is included in the normal admission price to the Ali Center and will be displayed on the 3rd floor until August 30th. Don’t miss your chance to see this incredible collection.
