Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest welcomes returning Grandmaster M. O. Serikali, Ph.D. and assistant instructor Revakah Higgins-Myers for another 10 week course on Thursday evenings of Tai Chi Chuan beginning August 5. This practice is an ancient Chinese art that strengthens both body and spirit with physical movement and mental concentration, and is one of the many opportunities at Bernheim that expands Bernheim’s mission of connecting people with nature. “Tai Chi and nature have to be part of our reality and humanity based on what we see, feel, and do,” says Dr. Serikali. “The quality of life starts within.” M. O. Serikali is the chief Tai Chi instructor for the Louisville Metro Health Dept. and has been teaching Tai Chi for over 40 years.
This course is appropriate for beginning through intermediate students. Beginners will practice the Yang Style thirteen posture Wudan Form and intermediate students will practice the Yang Style twenty-four posture Bejing Form.
In honor of Dr. Serikali and students of Tai Chi instruction at Bernheim, a garden near the historic silos at the Bernheim Education Center was dedicated to the practice of Tai Chi in nature. This garden is a symbol of Bernheim’s guiding philosophy, which is dedicated to health and harmonious living.
Registration for the upcoming session is required, and is available up to the beginning of the fourth class for the full fee. Register by calling (502) 955-8512; learn more at bernheim.org.
