Last weekend I visited the Georgetown Drive In for the first time of the summer. Two summers ago, my best friend introduced me to the Drive In and changed summer for me forever. I'm not being dramatic—the Drive In really has become a huge part of our summer ritual. It's the perfect date idea for those long, hot summer nights. Privately owned and operated, it's a great effort to support, whether you're bringing the whole family, or planning a special date.

Located at 8200 Georgetown Road, the Drive-In charges $10 per adult and $5 for children; quite a deal for two movies. My favorite part of the Drive-In, though, is the concession stand. Last weekend, we ordered deep fried mac-n-cheese bites, fried shrimp, fried pickles, fried cheese sticks, two cheeseburgers and a corn dog, and we got them for a steal. The Drive-In also has deep fried snickers bars and funnel cakes and $5 pizzas. The food is wonderful: deep fried, incredible, delicious and WONDERFUL.

The Drive-In is currently only open on the weekends. We like to get there around 7:30 because once it fills up, they won't let you in. You can find more information on their website here. Make sure you bring lawn chairs, blankets, pillows, and picnic stuff; my husband and I want to bring his truck out there with a mattress in the back, so we can lie down surrounded by fried food and watch the double feature.

It's Americana at its best. Visit the Drive-In!
