Total Value of Cars on Display is Over $300 Million
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 12, 2005) - The streets of Louisville will once again give the right away to hundreds of brightly colored street rods as the city welcomes the National Street Rod Association's (NSRA) 36th Annual Street Rod Nationals, Aug. 4 - 7 at the Kentucky Exposition Center (KEC). This year marks the eleventh time the NSRA has met in Louisville and the eighth consecutive year of its 13-year commitment to make Louisville and KEC its home through 2010.
Recognized as the world's largest automotive participation event, the Street Rod Nationals attract over 30,000 participants, and between 10,000 and 15,000 street rods for display. A street rod is a modernized automobile of 1948 and earlier manufacture. The total value of the street rods on display will be more than $300 million.
The annual show generates more than $16 million in economic impact. The 13-year contract represents a total of $208 million in economic impact throughout the life of the commitment and is the single largest booking for the community.
Along with all the cars on display, the four-day event includes a trade show, arts and crafts fair, a vintage auto parts swap meet, and entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. A special appearance by Tony Pedregon, National Hot Rod Associations Funny Car Champion is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m., and "Grave Digger" Monster Truck will be on display all weekend.
All NSRA activities are open to the public. Tickets are $12 for adults and $3 for children 6 - 12. Children five and under are free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets are available through the KEC box office. Hours are: Thurs., Aug. 4, 8am-5pm, Fri., Aug. 5, 8am-6pm, sat., Aug. 6, 8am-9pm, and Sun., Aug. 7, 8:30am-3pm.
