The DOW tops 11,000!!  Students read the news everyday about business, the stock market, and our economy.  But, do they understand any of it?  The Kentucky Council on Economic Education invites teachers to register their classes for the Stock Market Game program which runs from January 17 through April 28 (registration is open through Feb 6) to learn more about how our markets work and about investing for their own futures.  This program includes an Internet simulation for teams of students to manage their own investment portfolio (stocks and mutual funds) and to compete against other teams across the state for the highest value portfolio at the /files/storyimages/of the competition.

Or, classes can participate in the Take Stock in Kentucky program, which is the same Internet simulation, but students invest in Kentucky companies and companies important to our region, thereby letting students learn about our own Kentucky economy.  This competition runs from February 6 through April 13.  Prizes are awarded to winning teams in both competitions.

To register or to learn more about these programs, go to www.econ.org/smg

KCEE will also be offering an Introduction to the Stock Market Game (and Take Stock in Kentucky) for teachers through a conference call opportunity - all you need is a phone (cell phone will do) and access to a computer.  This conference session is being offered from 4:00-5:30 on January 18. It will include a look at the simulation, discussion of teaching strategies, and an opportunity to see all the online resources for teaching about markets, investing, etc.  Register this session by calling Susan Sandage, SMG Coordinator, at 502-213-4558 or 1-800-436-3266.
