The ninth race on the card is the Regret Stakes (G3) for three-year-old fillies. Kentucky Oaks (G1) competitors Kiss Moon (who finished last) and Aurelia’s Belle (who finished 9th) out class their rivals here and should have an easier go of it.
The tenth race is the President of the United Arab Emirates Cup Stakes (G1) for Arabians. It includes last year’s winner of this race, Valiant Boy SBFAR, the runner-up, In X Hess, and third-place finisher, Smoke House.
THE MUSIC
Downs After Dark never disappoints in the music category. In addition to several local DJs turning tunes throughout the track, SVET the Violinist, the hip-hop violin player from “America’s Got Talent,” will perform on the Plaza Stage in the Paddock Plaza just inside Gate 1 at 8:30 p.m. Watch for him to cruise the grounds playing tunes, as well.
THE BET
The first Churchill Downs Challenge offers a live-money handicapping contest with the top two finishers earning fully-paid entries to the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Cal., along with hotel accommodations, a travel voucher, and a cash prize.
If a handicapping contest is not your cup of tea, Churchill Downs and TwinSpires.com have paired to bring a one-night-only $100,000-guaranteed jackpot pool for the 20-cent Single 6 Jackpot wager on Saturday’s card. Only one ticket can win, but the winner would take the $100,000 pool. For details on this wager, visit Twinspires.com.
