An overflow field of 15 have drawn to test Friday’s $1 million Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track. Only 14 will enter the gate, so the also-eligible, Peace and War, will have to wait until 9 a.m. Friday morning to know if she’ll get in due to another horse’s defection.
John Sadler’s Stellar Wind has been installed as the 7-2 morning line favorite for the 141st running of the Kentucky Oaks by Churchill Downs odds-maker Mike Battaglia. The daughter of two-time Horse of the Year Curlin, comes into the race off a three-race win streak. She romped home to a 5 ½ length win in the Santa Anita Oaks (G1) last out. She’ll break from post 12 under jockey Victor Espinoza.
Co-second choice on the line, at odds of 4-1, is Larry Jones’ I’m A Chatterbox and Rudy Rodriguez’s Condo Commando. Just like Stellar Wind, both fillies will enter the Kentucky Oaks off a three-race win streak. I’m A Chatterbox won the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) over Shook Up and Forever Unbridled last out. Condo Commando dominated the Gazelle (G2) in wire-to-wire fashion in her last race. I’m A Chatterbox will break from post eight under jockey Florent Geroux. Condo Commando will break from post five under jockey Joel Rosario.
